How
do I get connected to the Internet using the iTegno GPRS Modem?
There are two ways to connect to the Internet - via GSM or GPRS
connection.
GSM
connection:
You
need an Internet access account with an ISP (Internet Service
Provider). In addition, you may need to subscribe to relevant services
(e.g. data services) for your SIM card from your network
provider.
GPRS
connection:
Check
with your mobile network provider to activate GPRS service on your SIM
card. If the mobile service provider offers ISP access, you may not
need to apply for another Internet access account. Dial-up settings for
GPRS connection may be obtained from the network provider.
|
|
|
3.
|
Is
the GPRS automatically available with GSM service?
No.
The normal GSM network needs some modification before it can support
GPRS. As such, the availability of GPRS service depends on whether the
individual telecommunication company has upgraded its network. Also, to
use the GPRS service, the SIM card has to be enabled with it.

Why
isn't my Chinese SMS translated correctly on iTegno Mobile Office
Suite?
This
is most probably due to the incorrect language settings.
To
correct this, open iTegno Mobile Office Suite application.
Go
to
1.
Settings
2.
Language
3.
Select the desired language
4.
Click Save to save the changes.
5.
Restart iTegno Mobile Office Suite to let the changes take effect. For
non-Chinese Win XP users, please uninstall Asia Service
Park (Please refer to the next question for further
instructions).
|
|
|
5. |
How
do I uninstall Asia Service Pack if I am a non-Chinese Win XP user?
Uninstalling the Asia Service Pack will allow iTegno Mobile Office
Suite to properly translate Chinese SMS.
To do so, please go to
1. Control Panel
2. Regional and Language Options
3. Select Language tab.
4. Uncheck "Install files for East Asia Language".
It
is highly recommended that users install a Chinese Language Word
Processor such as NJStar to allow Chinese SMS to be properly displayed
in iTegno Mobile Office Suite.
|
|
|
6. |
The
iTegno Mobile Office Suite's UI was not displayed correctly after I
changed the Language setting to Simplified or Traditional Chinese.
The
iTegno Mobile Office Suite works best if the selected language is the
same as the Windows default installed language. However, you should
still be able to send and receive Chinese SMS on iTegno Mobile Office
Suite with its content translated correctly.

How
is the iTegno GPRS Modem different from a mobile phone in enabling
the notebook computer wirelessly?
Power
consumption
The
iTegno GPRS Modem draws power from the laptop via the USB cable,
while Bluetooth or Infrared connections would draw power from that
device itself. Also, a notebook computer has a large power
reservoir, about five times as much as a mobile phone.
USB Connection
Using
an USB connection ensures that the battery life of the notebook
computer is not significantly affected. The fact that the mobile phone
has grown such in its importance that people need it all the time, and
the iTegno Modem frees up the mobile phone for its very important
voice-centric functions within its limited power capacity; the product
is an ideal complement to the busy executive’s communication
needs.
The
USB cable connection is compatible with all most notebook computers,
personal computers, and mobile terminals. For mobile phone
connections, a proprietary cable has to be purchased whenever the user
switches to another brand of mobile phone.
As
for infrared connections, the stability of line of sight for the
infrared interface makes this option inconvenient for mobile
professionals. The user would need to ensure that both devices -
the mobile device and the terminal (notebook, PC etc.) - are equipped
with an infrared port. However, mobile phones and notebook
computers are increasingly disposed of this option.
Durability
The
iTegno GPRS Modem is a durable, hardy device. This is made
possible with its USB connection, and all its components including the
antenna, are protected by an external casing which is capable of
withstanding the impact caused by a drop from table height. There are
also no loose components in the modem.

Mobile Office Suite application which comes with the package allows the
user to perform many functions that are typical of a mobile phone, such
as sending/receiving SMS and managing address book entries, just to
name a few. Ask for a demonstration from your iTegno dealer/distributor

What
is GPRS?
GPRS
refers to General Packet Radio Service. GPRS is charged based on the
amount of data transferred rather than by airtime. This service is
ideal for mobile professionals with a need to maintain an
“always-on” Internet connection without incurring hefty GSM
airtime charges. For example, once your emails have been downloaded or
sent, there are no further charges—even if you are still
connected to the Internet - as no data is being transferred.
